dolomite identification calcaire

The Schisto-Calcaire Subgroup (or ‘Carbonate Subgroup’, Prian, 2008) is predominantly a carbonate succession composed of four formations (Nsc1–Nsc4 in Chevallier et al., 2002 or SCI to SCIV, Fig. 1b and Prian, 2008).The lowermost three formations are calcareous to dolomitic shales with an uppermost sandy shale-siltstone unit with interbedded limestones.
Jun 27, 2017· Pisolite. A pisolite is a sedimentary rock made of pisoids, which are concretionary grains – often of calcium carbonate, but sometimes of rarer minerals – which resemble ooids but are always more than 2 mm in diameter. These grains are approximately spherical and have concentric layers reaching 10 mm in diameter. The name derives from the Hellenic word for pea.

Alvarez (1995) and Alvarez et al. (1995), in Democratic Republic of Congo, estimated the sedimentation of the Schisto-Calcaire Subgroup to have occurred between 650 and 630 Ma.On the other hand, based on Sr-isotope stratigraphy, Poidevin (2007) proposed an age of ca 580–575 Ma. Despite these uncertainties, it may be suggested that the deposition of Niari Tillite occurred during the Marinoan ...
